Cape Town signs off for the night as its call centre shuts and the app takes the strain
The City's official X account told residents its team is offline until Thursday and pointed them to the call centre, the app and the emergency lines.
The City of Cape Town’s social media team has signed off for the day. In a post from its official X account on Wednesday, the City said the team will be back online on Thursday, and pointed residents at other channels in the meantime.
Residents who need help can call 0860 103 089 or use the City’s App, which is available for both Apple and Android devices. Emergencies go to 021 480 7700 from a cellphone or 107 from a landline.
The post carried the City’s #OneCityTogether tag and a photograph, and closed with a waving hand and a “Goodbye Cape Town!”
The City did not say what prompted the sign-off, how long the team had been online, or whether the offline period is routine. It gave no indication of any change to the call centre, the app or the emergency lines, and no reason for residents to expect one.
The message is a reminder of where the City’s public contact sits outside office hours. The X account is one channel among several, and the numbers it lists are the ones that keep working when the team is not there to reply.
