Aspen takes Africa's vaccine case to Beijing as 40 manufacturers meet
The Durban-based pharmaceutical group joined vaccine makers from 17 developing countries at a forum on financing, regulation and regional production.
Aspen Pharmacare has taken part in a Beijing meeting of vaccine manufacturers that drew more than 40 companies from 17 developing countries, alongside global health organisations, regulators and financial institutions.
The gathering was co-hosted by DCVMN, BJFPI, Sinovac, BioKangtai and Zhifei, and held under the theme “Transforming Innovation into Immunisation”.
Aspen, which is based in Durban, said its participation reinforces the importance of collaboration in building sustainable vaccine manufacturing capacity and improving equitable access. It also creates an opportunity, the company said, to ensure that the priorities and realities of African manufacturers remain part of international discussions on vaccine financing, development, production and delivery.
The programme included discussions on regional production, financing and regulatory cooperation, including World Health Organisation prequalification. Delegates also explored the use of artificial intelligence in research, manufacturing and supply chains, and ways to strengthen public confidence in vaccination.
Aspen said its representation at the forum reflects its continued advocacy for stronger regional production, resilient supply chains and procurement approaches that support the long-term viability of African manufacturing. The company said the meeting was a reminder that vaccine equity depends not only on innovation but also on coordinated action, sustainable markets and the inclusion of manufacturers from developing countries.
