ANC tells women to lead at the ballot box on Wednesday as it stakes the election on safety
The party's official X account says the 4 November vote decides how streets are lit, how safe parks and taxi ranks are, and whether shelters and Thuthuzela Care Centres are supported.
The African National Congress has put women’s safety at the centre of its final message before Wednesday’s election, telling women to lead in their communities and at the ballot box when polls open from 07:00 to 21:00.
In a post on its official X account, the party framed the vote around the conditions of daily life rather than policy detail. “This election decides how our streets are lit, how safe our parks and taxi ranks are, and whether shelters and Thuthuzela Care Centres are supported,” it said.
The ANC’s stated position is that women “must be safe at home, on the street and at work”, and it called on “every woman in the League and beyond to lead in her community and lead at the ballot box”.
The appeal ties the party’s campaign to services that shape safety for women and girls, including street lighting, public spaces, transport nodes and the care centres that receive survivors of sexual violence. The post presents those services as what is at stake on Wednesday.
It closes on the party’s campaign slogans, “The work to build better communities together, for all, continues”, under the hashtags #VoteANC2026 and #LetsBuildBetterCommunities.
The post sets out the party’s position and its get-out-the-vote call. It does not carry specific spending commitments, targets or timetables for the services it names.
