ANC tells approved special voters to make today count
The governing party used its official X account to push special-vote turnout a day before the country goes to the polls, closing with a straight appeal: vote ANC.
The African National Congress spent the eve of voting telling people who have already been approved for special votes to use them, in a post on its official X account that mixes a turnout appeal with a direct party instruction.
“Your voice matters. Your vote matters. And every mark brings us closer to the communities we want to build,” the party wrote. “If you’ve been approved for a Special Vote, make today count. Tomorrow, let’s keep building a better South Africa together.”
The post closes with the appeal the party wants carried into the booth: “Vote ANC. Make your mark for a better future.” It carries the hashtags #VoteANC2026 and #LetsBuildBetterCommunities, and one photograph.
Read plainly, the message is aimed at a narrow and already-committed audience. Special votes are granted to voters who cannot reach their voting station on the main day, and the party is not asking them to consider its case so much as reminding them to use an entitlement they already hold.
The framing is the ANC’s own: that a mark on a ballot is a step toward “the communities we want to build”, and that the building continues the day after special votes close. That is a campaign claim, offered without detail in the post on which communities, which failures, or what the party would do differently.
The Enquirer has not independently verified the party’s turnout figures or its claims about community delivery, and the post carries none.
What the post does establish is where the governing party has put its effort in the final hours: not on persuasion of the undecided, but on making sure people who have already been cleared to vote actually do.
