ActionSA's last-minute push: get in the queue before 9pm, you will still vote

The party used its official X account on election day to tell supporters voting stations close at 9pm and that anyone still in line will be allowed to cast a ballot.

ActionSA told voters to get to a voting station before polls close at 9pm on Wednesday, using its official X account to remind supporters that anyone still standing in the line at that hour will be allowed to vote.

The post, published on election day, carried the party’s closing message of the campaign: “Last chance to make your voice heard!” It urged people to “go out to vote, and have your say in shaping the future of your community”, and added the practical instruction that “if you are in the line at 9pm, please stay there, you will be allowed to vote.”

It was signed off with the party’s #VoteActionSA hashtag and a ballot box emoji, and carried a photograph from the party.

The message is a get-out-the-vote appeal rather than a statement of policy. It makes no claim about turnout, does not reference any opponent by name, and gives no projection of the result. What it does is press the party’s supporters on the one thing still in their hands in the final hours, which is whether they join the queue.

The 9pm cut-off and the rule that those already in line may still vote are the standard arrangement at South African voting stations, and the reminder matters most to voters who leave work late or travel far to reach a station.

ActionSA has campaigned on immigration enforcement, border control and the load that undocumented migration places on South African services, and on municipal service delivery. The party’s election-day message stayed on turnout rather than returning to those themes.

The post gives no figure for how many people had voted, and the party has not said publicly what result it expects.
