250 extra police pour into Sekhukhune as voters go to the polls
SAPS has deployed National and Provincial members, including the Tactical Response Team, to protect voters, IEC officials and voting stations across the district.
About 250 extra police members have been deployed to the Sekhukhune District to strengthen security for the 2026 Local Government Elections, which are scheduled for Wednesday, 04 November 2026.
The members, drawn from National and Provincial Offices and including Tactical Response Team members, were officially welcomed at a parade at the Rugby Stadium in Groblersdal on Tuesday, 03 November 2026.

Addressing the parade, Sekhukhune District Commissioner Major General Lehabe-Metsi said the deployment is aimed at ensuring the safety of voters, IEC officials, election materials and voting stations. She called on the members to prevent voter intimidation, unlawful activities and disruptions, and to work closely with IEC officials and other stakeholders.
She emphasised discipline, professionalism and vigilance during the election period, and reminded the members of their constitutional responsibility to maintain public order and protect communities. Members were urged to uphold the SAPS Code of Conduct, remain impartial, and ensure that all voters enjoy a safe and dignified voting experience, irrespective of their political affiliation.
The parade opened with a prayer led by Chaplain Capt/Rev BAQ Ramatshego, who shared scripture from Micah 2:13 on God’s guidance in overcoming challenges.

SAPS called on communities to cooperate with law enforcement officers and to contribute towards peaceful elections.
